Lord Coe visited the College to present the Get Set plaque to staff and students before taking part in ‘Wheeling Towards London’, an event raising awareness of Paralympic Sport.

Coe said: "The College is doing great work – it’s very smart to use the Paralympic Games to change attitudes to disability and disability sport."

The Olympic gold medallist met a squad of 12 wheelchair basketball players from the College, joined in with a warm up and then watched the students launch a tournament with Year 10 pupils from three local schools.

The College’s sport development manager, Rob Day, said Lord Coe’s visit, which also saw eight students receive sports personality awards, had raised awareness of the Olympics amongst the sixth-formers.

He said: "It was really inspirational for the students and it kick-started excitement about the Games."
