More than 80 students and members of staff from across the College’s various departments took part in the five sessions which were in conjunction with Sport Development Officer at the Percy Hedley Foundation, Adam Parry.

As well as the learning, there was a competitive element to each of the five sessions with the winners at the end of the day receiving free tickets to a Newcastle Eagles game.

The College also challenged students and staff to cycle the distance from the campus to the Olympic stadium, which worked out at just over 450km.

A number of static bikes were placed around the college, in the Lifestyle Academy Foyer, Parsons Foyer, Trevelyan Canteen and the Sports Centre Reception to encourage as many people as possibly to take part. Between 9.15am and 2.30pm, with help from 115 students and 16 members of staff, just under 620km had been covered.

A spokesperson for Newcastle College said: “On the whole it was a very successful day and hopefully the first of many different events we can organise showing our commitment to delivering the Olympic and Paralympic Values to our students leading up to the London 2012 games."
