Hackney Community College
Region: London
Theme: Culture
Students and recent media production graduates of Hackney Community College have captured some of the experience and inspirational power of the Games in a documentary on Hackney's Champion for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Paralympian swimmer Dervis Konuralp.
Andrew Hill and Richard Chua were students on Hackney Community College's BTEC National Certificate in Media Production, they returned the college in the summer of 2009 to attend the Robert Levy Foundation film summer school. Their film, a short documentary about Paralympian swimmer Dervis Konuralp was showcased at the Hackney Empire to an audience of over 1000 people. Dervis lives in Hackney and also studied at Hackney Community College. All films produced by students at the summer school celebrate Hackney and challenge stereotypes. The summer school was run by HCC tutor Anna Johnson and Bafta award winning director Mark One.
