Podium commissioned the Centre for Sport, Physical Education & Activity Research (SPEAR) at
Canterbury Christ Church University to carry out research to capture the engagement of the
further and higher education sectors and related stakeholders with the past, current and future

What lasting educational benefits can be created by 'mega events'?

This report reviews the educational benefits that can be created from mega events: Olympic, Paralympic, Winter Games, World Cups and Commonwealth Games . The report concludes that projects arising from and created by mega events are not in themselves the valuable lasting legacy for education. Rather it is the changed attitudes, values and approaches, and the increased opportunities that create a strong engagement with education among the wider community.

ITT - Public Engagement Event Grants (£1000)

Applications are invited from UK higher education institutions for grants of one thousand pounds to develop and deliver a public engagement event on the academic disciplines related to sport, inspired by the London 2012 Games. These grants are being made available through the Public Engagement Programme for the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) 2012 , supported by the Research Councils UK and Podium .
