5 July 2012

A student from The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London has been tasked with keeping a watchful eye over Michael Phelps, the most successful ever Olympian at an individual Games, after being chosen to be a lifeguard at the London 2012 Aquatic Centre.

Bhaveet Shah

Officially known as an Aquatics Field of Play (FOP) Member, IT and Computing student Bhaveet Shah will be one of the team making sure all of the world's top swimmers are safe in the pool.

A strong contributor to College life as a Student Ambassador and mentor, Bhaveet is also a volunteer lifeguard for British Gas Great Swim Series which is an open water series that takes place across Britain in places including London, Ipswich, Salford Quays, Windermere and Scotland.

Bhaveet won Young Lifesaver of the Year 2010 and he is also a Volunteer Lifeguard instructor for Enfield School Of Lifesaving.

A strong long distance swimmer, Bhaveet loves sport and he says that if he goes to university, his choice will be based on the finding the right course with the best sports facilities.

Speaking about being picked to work at the London 2012 Olympic Games: “It’s fantastic. I follow swimming closely and it’s so brilliant to be working for the sport and at the same time to be able to get to see all the events for free.”
