How will you celebrate HE and London 2012 during Universities Week?
25 April 2012
The third annual Universities Week kicks-off on Monday 30th April with Higher Education institutions across the country staging more than 70 events celebrating the sector’s contribution to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and society as a whole.
The weeklong celebration will culminate in the Podium Awards Evening on Thursday 3rd May and the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships from Friday 4th to Monday 7th at the Olympic Stadium.
The campaign has been co-ordinated by Universities UK and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), in partnership with Podium. The week is also being supported by a wide range of organisations across the country including the National Union of Students, Research Councils UK, GuildHE, the Universities Marketing Forum, the Higher Education Funding Council for England and many more.
And of course, scores of universities across the UK are contributing to the week by doing exactly what they do best – bringing people together to learn, discuss and broaden their horizons whilst socialising.
Various activities, the vast majority of which are absolutely free to attend, are taking place all over the UK. Events include; concerts, exhibitions, lectures, debates, performances, sports fixtures, have-a-go sessions and many more. You can search for Universities Week 2012 events in your region here.
This year’s campaign will also see the launch of two reports on the Monday and the Wednesday of the week. The first looks specifically at HE’s contribution to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games whilst the second will showcase the role of university research and sport development in underpinning the success of Team GB.
You can take part in the week on twitter by using the following hashtags #UniWeek, #PodiumAwards and #BUCSChamps. For further updates please visit the Universities Week website www.universitiesweek.org.uk.
