Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards (far left) and Sir Craig Reedie (far right) presented the award to Sports Union President, Catrin Dickson (inside left) and Exercise Development Officer, Sarah McMahon (inside right), who devised and organised a programme of London 2012 themed events.

The events, which launched earlier this month and run through until 30 March 2012, aim to encourage people to improve their health and fitness. The activities include a 365 mile challenge and Wii Fit 'Light your Flame' competition, as well as the Watt Olympics and a sports union team contest.

"This is absolutely brilliant news and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised in this way," said Catrin Dickson. "The 2012 Games are gearing up to be such an exciting event that we were keen to use this as a way to encourage people to take advantage of the superb sports facilities we have on campus and to improve their own personal fitness."

The university's Centre for Sport and Exercise facility, which is based in Edinburgh, will host the events on campus.

Seb Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, added: "The Inspire programme is insuring the legacy of the 2012 Games starts now as projects like the Watt Olympics are enabling people at Heriot-Watt University to make positive life changes."
