7 February 2012
A delegation of senior figures from the UK Further and Higher education sectors recently joined a Podium visit to Brazil to share their experiences of how colleges and universities can engage with the Olympic and Paralympic Games and their legacy.
The Podium delegation held meetings with senior officials at the Ministries of Education and Sport, and the Brazilian Universities Sports Federation (CBDU), ROCOG (Rio2016) and the elite Army PE Centre (ExEFEx) in Rio de Janeiro the Training Camp for the Brazilian national team for Rio 2016.
Visits were also made to the Olympic Aquatic Centre and to a number of universities and colleges. On the final day, Podium held a seminar at the State University of Rio de Janeiro to build on the prior meetings, to expand its reach and to help to develop the early stages of an international network.
Podium will now be inviting colleagues from Brazil to come to the UK for Universities Week 2012 and the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships to learn more about how FE and HE are engaging with the Games, with a view to establishing further knowledge exchange partnerships between the two countries.
