London 2012 Paralympic mascot, Mandeville continued its adventure around the UK by visiting Moulton College in Northamptonshire and taking part in several different sports.

The College was fortunate enough to be the recipient of one of Mandeville’s first visits on its two year journey around the country - meeting new people and trying new sports as part of Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme.

The visit was organised to enable Mandeville, named after Stoke Mandeville where the first ever Paralympic Games were held in 1948, to visit youngsters that use the college facilities.

In particular, Mandeville spent time with children from the Wilby Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association and Rushden Community College where they played hockey, took part in a fencing competition and watched the riders at work.

Director of Sport at Moulton College, Lee Howarth said: “It is fantastic to have one of the London 2012 mascots come to Moulton and it is wonderful for both the RDA and the local school children to meet Mandeville and demonstrate that the Olympics are not just a London event.

“The Riding for the Disabled Association group really encapsulates what sport can do for children with disabilities as you can see how much they enjoy being on the horses every week.’

East Midlands Co-ordinator for the 2012 Games, Tracy Croft added: “I am delighted to have welcomed Mandeville to the East Midlands to visit one of our potential Pre Games Training Camp venues. I know the young people taking part in the activities at Moulton College really enjoyed this memorable experience.’’

Wenlock and Mandeville are already building an interest in sport with young people. Thousands have been voting on the London 2012 Mascots website to choose which sports they should learn next.

So far, Wenlock has learnt how to row and swim and Mandeville has learnt 5-a-side football and wheelchair basketball. Wenlock and Mandeville currently have more than 6,000 friends on facebook, and 3,000 followers on twitter.
