British Library launches London 2012 website and calls for articles

8 July 2010

The British Library has launched a new website called Sport and Society that views London 2012 through the lens of social science and is appealing for people to contribute their existing Games-related articles and publications.

The British Library

The website seeks to introduce the wide range of materials held at the British Library which can support research into the social aspects of sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games whilst covering a number of themes including education, business and sport.

One of the major focuses of the site is legacy. For the British Library, the most important aspect of the legacy debate is the need to ensure that libraries and archives acquire as much as possible of the publications (and other materials) coming out of the London 2012 so that future generations will have all the necessary resources to analyse the Games and its outcomes.

The library is therefore making a particular appeal to academics and publishers of all kinds to help by depositing their publications on the site and creating a debate about the legacy of London 2012.

If you have an article or publication that you believe would be of interest please e-mail it to Gill.Ridgley@bl.uk. For further details please visit the British Library Sport and Society website
