Get involved with this year's London 2012 Open Weekend
9 March 2010
Colleges, universities and students are being invited to get involved with Open Weekend, the annual UK-wide celebration counting down to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which this year takes place from 23 to 25 July.
Once again, the weekend will feature hundreds of sporting, arts and culture events right across the UK. This year, we're asking organisations to create a challenge for their audience - to try something new or take an existing skill to a new level.
Last year, many colleges and universities got involved by running events of the day. Click on the links to find out more.
The University of Leeds organised a unique morning of sport and family activities. The event began with a 5km run around Hyde Park in Leeds open to all regardless of experience or running ability – some walked, some ran, some jogged.
City College Norwich, staged a spectacular fitness and healthy living awareness event called Wind, Water and Wheels for the local community where people were encouraged to try new sports.
A student from the University of Southampton, Sana Rashid gave the public the chance to participate in dressing Southampton’s most famous landmark - The Bargate with her Medley Mix-Up event.
Coventry University teamed up with the Coventry & Warwickshire 2012 Games Partnership and Coventry, Solihull & Warwickshire Sport (CSW Sport) to host an Elite Performance Day.
