Student journalist interviews London 2012 hopefuls - Brownlee brothers
17 February 2010
St Andrews University student Andrew Magee has interviewed London 2012 triathlon hopefuls Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee ahead of next month’s British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) Championships.
The brothers, who both study in Leeds, are making great progress ahead of London 2012. Alistair was crowned 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championship whilst Jonathan has swept all aside at a junior level after becoming the 2009 Australian Youth Olympics Champion and European Junior Triathlon Champion.
Magee is part of BUCS’ media team for the championships which take place from 10 to 14 March in Sheffield. In the interview the Brownlees speak about their love of Yorkshire whilst being rather guarded about their hopes for London 2012.
When asked who’s going to win the triathlon at the Games Alistair replies, “Probably neither of us to be honest!”, whilst Jonathan adds: “I was a junior last year so I’ll just have to take it a year at a time. It’s a big step up.”
