Havering College trains landscape labourers for London 2012
26 January 2010
Havering College’s Department of Horticulture will begin training a group of 25 people in February to work as skilled landscape labourers on the Olympic Park.
The 13-day intensive training scheme will involve learning practical skills in paving and surfaces, drainage, horticultural machinery, soils and plants, and turf management in time for the work which is due to be carried out on the Olympic site this spring.
The course which has been developed in partnership with Lantra - the skills council for the environmental and land based sector - will also provide advice and guidance on interview techniques and CV writing to help prepare the participants for work. Candidates who successfully complete the course will have industry work placement before going into employment on the Park or other projects.
