2 December 2009

The nine colleges of London 2012’s five host boroughs have been recognised with the Inspire Mark for their joint Legacy Champions project.

The programme is the first time that students from all the further education and sixth form colleges in the host boroughs will come together for a structured event designed just for them and continue working together afterwards.

Legacy Champions is scheduled to begin in February 2010 with 10 students from each of the colleges taking part in an activity-packed Legacy Day including a visit to the Olympic Park. After that, the students will have lots of opportunities including workshops and discussions to champion the legacy of the Games to their colleges and communities.

Ruth Lomax from Hackney Community College said: “The host borough colleges have been working very effectively together to help local people make the most of the opportunities of the Games. The Legacy Champions project is just one example of this and we’re all really pleased to have it officially recognised with the Inspire Mark.”

To have a chance of taking part, students will write, record or film 200 words on why they should be a Legacy Champion and each college will select 10 worthy champions.

The Legacy Champions programme will run to December 2012 and will involve the following institutions; Brook House Sixth Form College, Greenwich Community College, Hackney Community College, Leyton Sixth Form College, Newham College of Further Education, Newham Sixth Form College, Sir George Monoux College, Tower Hamlets College, and Waltham Forest College.
