How have you commemorated the London 2012 Games?

24 October 2012

How are you holding on to the excitement of the London 2012 Games that changed Britain? Have you been stocking up on London 2012 memorabilia in an attempt to remember the once in a lifetime event that captivated a nation?

Games commemoration

What are your favourite memories of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games? The amazing spirit of the 70,000 Games Maker volunteers, the variations of Wenlock and Mandeville memorabilia, or the multiple Team GB and ParalympicsGB victories?

Dr Anna Woodham, a teaching fellow at the University of Birmingham’s Ironbridge International Institute for Cultural Heritage is conducting a small project to capture and explore how members of the public are creating their own memories of the Games in individual and highly personal ways.

This project is about exploring the diverse  ways that people commemorate significant events like the 2012 Games rather than the more official commemoration and recognition activities such as victory parades and public honours.

This might include the practice of collecting pin badges, London 2012 stamps or curating your own personal collection of London 2012 memorabilia at home.

If you’ve captured memories of London 2012 in any way shape or form please get in touch with Anna at a.l.woodham@bham.ac.uk.

Dear Anna,

For me the Olympics inspired me to be more curious and accpeting of myself and others, and to explore and use my skills and potential, particularly capturing people or things that inspire me. I started my own blog as a first step on my journey and to capture my journey:
