How can Podium support your institution's London 2012 legacy plans?
26 October 2012
Now that the Olympic and Paralympic Games have left the UK’s shores, Podium is busy working away on post-London 2012 legacy plans and we would like to know how we can support your aims and let you know how your college or university can become involved in our plans.
According to our recent stakeholder survey, more than three quarters of respondents are interested in exploring opportunities associated with future sport events including Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This is very encouraging and we hope that Podium will be able to help facilitate your involvement with future mega-events as we did with London 2012. It is our belief that with a joined-up, structured approach from both the Further and Higher Education sectors, together we have a lot to offer.
Podium continues to work with stakeholders from Glasgow 2014, Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016, championing the skills, experience and expertise of both the sectors. Additionally, we have broadened our horizons to single sport events such as the Rugby League and Rugby Union World Cups, which are being staged in the UK in 2013 and 2015 respectively, and also to non-sporting events which may be of interest to the sectors.
You may already be aware of our Legacy Event which will be taking place on Tuesday 4th December at the University of Westminster which we hope you will be able to attend. Before that date, the Podium team is happy to discuss any legacy ideas and plans you may have and how we can assist.
Finally, the current funding model for Podium comes to an end on 31st December 2012 and we are discussing how the unit may continue into 2013 and beyond for the benefit of the UK's FE and HE sectors. To help us meet this aim, we would be extremely grateful for any testimonies of support and expressions of interest in seeing the Podium programme extended. Please email them to info@podium.ac.uk.
We will keep you up-to-date on our discussions with future host cities and organisations via the usual channels.
Thank you for your support.

Any opportunities would be great for our Events Management students here at Cardiff Met. Opportunities for volunteering to add to their CVs is always welcome. Also any guest speakers from Podium or other mega-events at our University would be gratefully received. I am exploring the possibilities of Skype guest lecturing to save travelling expenses and carbon footprint... Please get in touch if any or all of this is possible, thanks.
