The 24-year-old former European champion is currently studying for a fitness qualification at the College alongside training with Team GB at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Campbell was cheered on by passionate British support and ultimately defeated John Joe Nevin 14-11.

Campbell told the BBC: "It's something I've worked for all my life and I can't believe it's here. I had to be on my game to win and tonight I was on my game. I can't believe it, I appreciate all the support here and back home in Hull."

Campbell's fellow College student Anthony Joshua will fight for gold tomorrow against Roberto Cammarelle.
