My work experience with Podium
5 February 2010
During my two weeks work experience with Podium I learned a lot about the Unit and how the team are helping colleges and universities engage with London 2012.
Whilst I was with Podium I went to amazing places such as Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium for the Healthy FE National Conference which was excellent and I also attended a meeting at the London 2012 offices at Canary Wharf where we saw Olympic triple jump gold medallist Jonathan Edwards.
As well as the trips out, Gareth, Kate and Matthew set me a list of tasks to do while I was in the office with them including producing a guide to the Get Set education programme, researching which British athletes at Vancouver 2010 are students or graduates and giving feedback on the new look website.
It was a pleasure to work for Podium, to visit new places and have the chance to meet lots of different people. I also enjoyed dressing in a shirt and tie - it made me look really official and tidy.
The team were cool to work with. They made me feel comfortable and enabled me to fit into the environment that they work in. On my last day they treated me by taking me out for lunch to a Mexican café. It was the first time I’ve had Mexican food and I enjoyed it.
I’m lucky that my college, Hackney Community College, is already engaged with London 2012, running projects around the Games and working closely with Podium. I will definitely keep my eye out for future opportunities about how I can get further involved with London 2012 so hopefully I will see the Podium team again in the future.
