East London Lives

6 February 2010

Here at the University of East London, the library is supporting Olympic research with a number of exciting projects. One of these is East London Lives 2012, a digital archive which documents the changes brought about in East London by the 2012 Olympics.

East London Lives

The research was undertaken by two research institutes at the University of East London (UEL) and involved participants from all the Olympic boroughs - Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Those taking part were able to express their views and opinions about the Games with reference to health and well being and social regeneration which were promises made in the Olympic bid. The project was funded by the Joint Information and Systems Committee (JISC) as part of the Enriching Digital Resources programme and launched towards the end of 2009.

At the East London Lives website you can search the research outputs as well as documents licensed from the Greater London Authority which are relevant to the Games.

There are videos of focus groups and interviews and photos of the Olympic park and the work underway at the park. Furthermore, upcoming events are promoted via the blog and there are twitter and RSS that you can subscribe to.

As East London gears up for the Games, more research that is currently being undertaken at UEL will appear on the website. We are also investigating membership options for the site so people can join and upload their own pictures, videos and comments.

Libby Homer is the Collections Development Manager for the Library and Learning Services at UEL.
